Specialist Waxing

A lot has been said about why athletes remove their body hair.it has been stated by experts that having no hair improves the aerodynamics of the human body in a way that athletes can take advantage of i.e. maximizing their performance. However, there is more to it than just science; athletes themselves have given some understandable explanations as to why they wax, here are six reasons that explain the benefits removing the body hair

  • Better performance
Some studies show that swimmers and runners can swim and run faster when they are hairless, although there is no 100% certainty this is true. According to the Journal of Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, hairless bodies can save up to 0.01 seconds when running 100 m or even 5.7 seconds in total during a marathon. Moreover, runners, tennis players, and cyclist affirm hairless skin feels cooler during exercise which helps their performance.

  • Medical care
Cyclists say that wound healing is much safer –less chance of infection— and faster with hairless legs; calming oils and creams are easier to apply too. They are not the only ones, though. Soccer players are often asked to shave their legs since hair-free skin is much easier to treat in case of injury during a match. For most athletes, hair removal just means medical prevention.

  • Comfort
Using kinesiology tapes (K-tapes), compression socks, or any other kind of sports accessory is much more comfortable when you don't have any hair. Have you ever noticed how much equipment football players wear? Their socks or kneepads can rip hair out, which can cause unexpected pain during a match. Waxing is just a practical decision for most of them.

Triathletes are another great example of this. Going from swimming 2.4 miles, to biking 112 miles and running 26.219 miles more during an Ironman Triathlon requires athletes to discard every single possibility of discomfort or possible pain, including hairy legs.

  • Massage treatments
It's normal for athletes to get massages every week or so to relax the muscles, especially for long distance runners or sprinters; this process is much more relaxing with fuzz-free legs. During a race, sometimes marathoners stop and get a quick massage to relieve leg cramps; this can cause uncomfortable hair knots which may jeopardize their performance afterward

  • Looks
Besides being athletes, some soccer or tennis players work as models for famous sports brands, for example. After all, famous athletes are public figures, which is why it is important to them to have a smooth, healthy-looking body.

Waxing not only benefits the professional athletes, but any individual enjoying sport will benefit in the same way. Others such as Body builders, Dancers and Models wanting to show their bodies at their finest, more simply some just enjoy the feeling of being lighter, cleaner, cooler, sexier & more hygienic.

Top five waxing aftercare tips

  • Moisturise the waxed area regularly. Ingrown hairs are often caused by dry or flaky skin which does not allow the hair to grow through. If you are moisturising your intimate bits, be sure to use an appropriate cream or oil that won’t aggravate these most sensitive of areas

  • Exfoliate the waxed area several times a week to get rid of dead skin cells. Again, if it’s an intimate area, make sure you choose a suitable scrub. Choose a gentle exfoliator – too harsh and it will irritate your skin or make it sore. In fact, over-exfoliation or the use of an unsuitable scrub will graze the skin and may actually cause ingrown hairs, rather than prevent them.

  • A washable exfoliating cloth can be a great aid to use alongside your normal shower gel. Such cloths often exfoliate the skin by themselves, without the need for an additional scrub and they leave your skin feeling extremely clean and smooth. These kind of wash clothes are a much better solution than traditional loofahs, which can’t be put in the washing machine and which therefore harbour germs.

  • For non-intimate areas of the body, dry brushing can have a useful exfoliating effect.

  • Dead sea salt used as bath salts can help prevent infection as can anti-bacterial shower gels. Soothing lotions and gels, especially those containing products such as tea-tree oil, aloe vera and witch-hazel can also alleviate irritation.

  • No fake tans, massages, extreme heat treatments (e.g. very hot baths or showers, saunas, steam rooms), swimming, sunbathing (including sun beds or any other exposure to UV light) or tight clothing for 24-48 hours

  • Try and avoid exercise for 24-hours. Do not scratch or touch the area with unwashed hands.

  • Avoid applying deodorant, anything perfumed or make-up to the waxed area for 24 hours.
